Free Public Record Search Engine - Pretrieve

What is Pretrieve?

Before the Internet, researching a person or business through public records was inconvenient at best. While public records have always been available, the bureaucratic maze of differing jurisdictions, locations, and access policies made it difficult to use public records as a research tool. Just getting started might have meant trips to several different locations (the State Archives, County Courthouse, City licensing bureaus, etc.) to find relevant information.

With the advent of the Internet came more convenient online access to some public records. The Federal, State, and Local governments have all responded to demands from constituents to make at least some public record data available without requiring physical visits to their facilities. An impressive array of public records is already available online, and both the quantity and quality of this data grows daily.

However, while online access to public records does solve the problem of having to physically visit multiple locations to find information, it doesn't address other fundamental problems like knowing what public records are available, knowing where to find them, and being forced to retype search criteria on each site. Solving all of these remaining problems is what Pretrieve is all about.

Pretrieve is a search engine that is specifically geared towards finding public records relevant to a person, business, or address. Our search database knows about thousands of public records sources, and can match your search information to the relevant sources for you. And, even though we already cover a large number of public record sources, we are constantly expanding our coverage to offer even more search results.

As an added convenience, most of the search result links that we provide take you directly to the results page on the associated public record site. For example, clicking on a "Property Record" link usually takes you directly to the property record data, rather than simply taking you to the home page of the property record site. This means that, in most cases, you only have to type your search criteria once to view public records on multiple sites.

We hope you find Pretrieve to be a useful (and fun) research tool. We are constantly striving to improve our coverage and accuracy, and we welcome your feedback.
